We held this Game Illustration Contest from Wednesday, April 17th to Tuesday, May 28th and GREE has decided on the winners!

The purpose of this contest was to help GREE search for fresh new talent, with a chance to that GREE would offer them a job.
The contest’s theme was based off a fictional fantasy card game, focusing on the boss battle.

Creating boss monsters seemed like such a difficult task, yet we had about an amazing 1,200 entries to this contest!

The quality of work entered was so high, it was difficult to choose winners. GREE had originally decided to only choose 5 winners, but decided to offer more prizes and select 8 winners.

With an orthodox motif, the composition, full-bodied color balance, this illustration is such a high caliber. Using a style traditional to card illustrations, it’s easy to think of this character as the rival to the protagonist. You’ve created a really fascinating character!

The dynamic composition and design is very interesting. The best part is the style of illustration, showing the artist’s comfort with drawing such a creature. It’s such a lively illustration which is a strong point.

Even though the quality of this illustration is excellent, the thing that stood out is its Japanese influence that still fits the fantasy genre. There were few Japanese culture inspired entries, so this textured piece was wonderful. I also read the description and felt it was such a good match to what you thought of.

This artist paid close attention to the finishing touches of this illustration. I really felt it was a perfect example of high quality work. The polka dot effect of the water droplets and accessory details were done really well. Even though this is a female character, this illustration as a combination of the “monster boss” and “Kraken” ideas were executed perfectly. Due to the artistic skill and idea, we chose this as a winner.

This illustration was amazing by basing its theme off the an intense boss showdown. The detail of the dragon’s texture, the reflection of the magma in the background, and decisive battle feel of this illustration was rendered so perfectly.

The design, sketch, and composition are all really skillfully executed and the watercolor touch on the details show a high level of attention. Even though it almost didn’t make it into our strict contest period, they were able to create an illustration of this high caliber in time. We want to see a more complete version next time, so please continue to do your best!

I really like the composition of this illustration, which makes the viewer feel how the character is struggling against his gigantic opponent. The entire illustration was drawn with the complete image in mind, really describing the theme of “a boss battle” very well.

The characters in the foreground standing up against such an interestingly designed monster really shows how serious the artist was in creating this illustration. The set up of the entire illustration is very interesting. You can really feel the distance from the characters to the monster and it feels so intense.
