The pixiv Novel's Writing Support Project ~ Youth ~ starts on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023. This contest accepts novels under a theme that changes periodically. The theme this round is "Youth". We're looking for all kinds of novels on the theme of ""youth"", whether it features studying for a final exam in the library with your friends, admiring that person in your club who won the summer sports match almost single-handedly, taking on an adult-level challenge you've never faced before, or anything else you can think of. The winner of the top prize will be chosen via lottery from among the contestants. They'll be able to receive an item that will help them stay cool and fresh all summer long: a backpack, a deluxe air circulation fan, or a portable barbecue. Amazon gift codes for 1000 JPY will be given to 20 runners-up. Entry Period: From Tuesday, June 6th to Monday, July 31st, 2023, 11:59 pm JST Theme: Novels under the theme "Youth" will be accepted. The contents, genre, and other details of the setting are totally up to you. How to Participate: Please post your novel to pixiv and attach both the project tag "執筆応援PJ23Jun" and at least one sub-theme tag to your novel. You can pick whichever of these tags you like (original text in parenthesis). This feature will allow you to adjust your work titles to make them easier to read. Upcoming policy shift on AI-generated work on pixiv Requests

Greetings from pixiv Requests. We have received a lot of feedback regarding the handling of AI-generated work on Requests. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused as our response did not keep up with the rapid development of this technology. We would like to share our thoughts and future plans for Requests and take into account your feedback and the current situation. On pixiv Requests, creators and fans come together to engage in creative activities pixiv Requests started with the intention of providing a space where creators and fans can connect through shared interests while also creating new opportunities for creativity. It's much more than a place to buy and sell artwork. With Requests, we aim to make everyone's creative activities more fun by getting both creators and fans involved in the creative process. Fans feel an intense connection not only to the artwork but also to its creators. Until now, we have been running the service with the idea that we should not limit the means of creation for our creators, and we have made changes to allow a clear distinction between traditional requests and requests that focus specifically on AI-generated work. However, in the current state of Requests, we have seen a growing trend of using AI only to fulfill requests much faster than was traditionally possible. Moreover, more people are making the same requests to various creators who offer AI-generated work, only to cancel all of their requests once one of them has been accepted. We anticipate that this type of artwork trading without regard to the creators will only increase in the future. This deviates from the original intentions of our service as a place for creators to thrive, and we have decided that we cannot continue with the current distinction. You will no longer be able to accept requests for AI-generated work We have decided that we will prohibit AI-generated work on Requests for the time being. These are the measures we plan to take: Starting Monday, May 22nd, 2023 (JST), you will no longer be able to create a new set of terms soliciting requests for AI-generated work. Starting Monday, May 29th, 2023 (JST), you will no longer be able to accept requests for AI-generated work even on existing terms. Measures against other prohibited conduct If we believe that a requested work is unreasonably harming the interests of a third party, we will take appropriate action regardless of whether the inquiry or report comes from the parties involved in the request. We are also preparing some guidelines and rules to address these issues. More information will be announced at a later date. We sincerely apologize to anyone who may be inconvenienced by these revisions. Going forward, Requests will continue to review and update its Terms of Use and Guidelines in accordance with the advancements and changes in the community surrounding AI technology. Announcement regarding issues related to the misuse of generative AI and related countermeasures

Greetings from pixiv. Recently, we have been receiving an increasing number of inquiries about issues related to the misuse of generative AI. We sincerely apologize for any trouble you may have experienced regarding this issue. The three issues we have received the most inquiries about are as follows: ① Damage suffered by specific creators ② Software being used for unauthorized aggregation of a creator's work ③ Requests to improve the feature to hide AI-generated works pixiv is taking the following measures to address these issues. Furthermore, we are considering implementing additional measures on our affiliate service pixivFANBOX. We will release further details on this within a few days. Creators targeted in such a way by this technology are made vulnerable to impersonation attempts and can suffer emotional and other damage through the fraudulent use of their creative identity. Countermeasures for ① ■ Updates to the Service Master Terms of Use and Guidelines The new Service Master Terms of Use / Guidelines will prohibit the repeated posting of copycat works that mimic the style of a specific creator, and introduce stricter measures on violations. The Service Master Terms of Use apply to pixiv and all pixiv-related services. As noted in our previous announcement, these updates are scheduled to be rolled out during the month of May. ・Upcoming updates to the Service Master Terms of Use and Guidelines https://www.pixiv.net/info.php?id=9522 ■ Addition of a new monitoring system pixiv is currently preparing to roll out a new additional monitoring system. This system will enable easier detection of malicious use of generative AI technology and acts of threat or intimidation, child pornography, plagiarism, and other acts/content that cause problems for the pixiv community. ② Software being used for unauthorized aggregation of a creator's work In order to train a generative AI to mimic a certain style, a "data set" of multiple illustrations is required. In some cases, crawler programs have been created to aggregate illustrations by specific creators from social media to use as data sets for training AI to be used for fraudulent purposes against the creator. Countermeasures for ② ■ pixiv already prohibits the use of crawler programs to aggregate works for malicious purposes The use of crawler programs to aggregate works for malicious purposes is prohibited under Article 14 of the Service Master Terms of Use and in the Guidelines. If violations are discovered, they will be dealt with accordingly. ■ We will increase our efforts to prevent malicious access Please check below for details on the various countermeasures we are currently undertaking. Countermeasures for ③ ■ Preventing search results, etc. from being occupied entirely by works from a single user If a single user posts a high volume of works within a short time frame, works from that user may eclipse works from other creators in search results. pixiv is planning to strengthen countermeasures against this kind of high-volume posting. ■ We're making the feature to filter out AI-generated works easier to use We're changing the settings for flagging and/or filtering AI-generated works to be easier to access and use. Greetings from pixiv. pixiv and related services have recently received a large number of inquiries regarding the malicious use of generative AI in a way that significantly harms specific creators’ creative identity. Accordingly, pixiv is preparing to make appropriate revisions to the Service Master Terms of Use and the Guidelines within the month of May. Because of Twitter's updates, from April 28th, 2023, pixiv will update its Twitter-linked posting features, as detailed below. * Users will still be able to log in to pixiv with a linked Twitter account. ① Retirement of the Twitter simultaneous posting feature * Illustration and Manga posting pages * Novel posting page Due to these updates, the checkbox feature "Tweet a thread" and "Share this post on Twitter" will be retired. If you would like to share your work on Twitter, please post your work to pixiv first, then click the "Share this post" button, and select "Twitter". * Posted work page * Work details page ② The "Tweet a thread" feature will no longer be available for certain works The pixiv feature "Tweet a thread", which allows creators to post multi-page works as a thread on Twitter, will be modified to exclude certain works, due to the updates to Twitter's API specifications.
