The 1000 Words Contest, celebrating 100 billion characters posted to pixiv, opens on Friday, May 19th! The total number of characters posted on pixiv novels will soon top 100 billion! pixiv is inviting creators to add even more water to the ocean of stories available on pixiv, by holding a contest themed on "a message in a bottle". Creators are invited to write a work expanding on this theme in 1000 words or less. Original stories, essays, scripts, and fan fiction are all okay. Put your work's message into the "bottle" of the story, then set it afloat in the pixiv sea! The winning works from the Original Novel category will be compiled into a book, to be sold at future pixiv events and on BOOTH. Winners will also receive a pixiv novels original fountain pen and ink set, and an acrylic block featuring a highlight scene from your story. In addition, entries in the Freestyle category will be chosen by lottery to win a prize of a pixiv novels original fountain pen and ink set. The pixiv Novel's Writing Support Project ~ Proverbs ~ starts on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023. This contest accepts novels under a theme that changes periodically. The theme this round is "Proverbs". "After rain comes fair weather", "silence is golden", "necessity over luxury", and "practice makes perfect" are all well-known proverbs, but there are so many other options out there just waiting to spark your creativity! Try writing a story centered on a proverb. Any proverb is okay! What if you caught an earlier train than usual and happened to run into your first love? (The early bird catches the worm.) What if it turned out that the person you always envied had the same problems you do? (The grass is always greener on the other side.) What if you accidentally blabbed a secret that put your life in danger? (Loose lips sink ships.) We're looking for all kinds of stories involving proverbs. The winner of the top prize will be chosen via a lottery from among the contestants. The pixiv Novel's Writing Support Project ~ Lies ~ starts on Tuesday, March 7th, 2023. This contest accepts novels under a theme that changes periodically. The theme this round is "Lies". A little lie told by mistake, a gentle lie told to protect someone else, a lie that set off a major catastrophe or landed someone in a false relationship that changed lives, or even just silly jokes among a group of friends... we're looking for all kinds of stories about the situations lying can lead to. The winner of the top prize will be chosen via a lottery from among the contestants. They'll be able to receive an item so sweet, it'll feel like a lie (a choice of: a futon dryer, a shower head, or noise-cancelling earbuds). Amazon gift codes for 1000 JPY will be given to 20 runners-up. The pixiv Novel's Writing Support Project ~ Flags ~ starts on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023. This contest accepts novels under a theme that changes periodically. The theme this round is "Flags". A "flag" is a hint in a story that foreshadows events to come. Flags can hint at romance, death, losing, anything that nudges your readers to think, "hey, what if...?" We're looking for stories that contain these foreshadowing "flags". Any genre is okay. It's up to you whether the "flag" proves to be true or false! On pixiv, between November 25th and December 25th, 2022, we launched the "pixiv Novel Children's Charity Project Book Santa 2022", to support the activities of the Book Santa project, which aims to donate books to disadvantaged children throughout Japan. ◆"pixiv Novel Children's Charity Project Book Santa 2022" Event Page We're pleased to announce that during this event, 890 participants submitted a total of 1162 eligible works (works meeting the guidelines of the project), earning a total of 581,000 JPY in donations (approx. 4500 USD). All the donations were transferred to the NPO Charity Santa on January 20th, 2023. The donations collected through this project will be used to fund the operation of Book Santa, and to pay for books donated to children. We thank you all for your warm and heartfelt support. ■ About Book Santa Book Santa was founded in 2017 with the mission of donating books to disadvantaged children throughout Japan. Operated by the NPO Charity Santa, Book Santa partners with NPOs and booksellers throughout the country.
