2. How to Participate
Write a novel according to the theme and format of the Contest, tag it with the entry tag for the appropriate category, then post the work to pixiv within the time frame of the Contest.
Theme
Freely write a novel or essay based on the theme of the contest.
Theme: Message in a Bottle
■ Message from the editorial team: A memorable meeting, an expression of love to a stranger, a lucky coincidence (serendipity), etc... pixiv is waiting for all your stories on the theme "Message in a Bottle". In the Freestyle category, you are also welcome to enter essays describing your feelings/memories about pixiv novels.
Entry Format
Work format: Novel, Essay, or Script
Post format: One-shot work
Number of words: 1000 words or less (based on the data shown on the pixiv posting page or the work details page.)
Content: Only original works will be accepted in the Original Novel category. (Make sure to check the "Original work" box when posting your entry). Both original works and fan fiction will be accepted in the Freestyle category.
Age restrictions: Only All Ages works will be accepted in the Original Novel category. There are no age restrictions on works that can be entered in the Freestyle category, but if the entry contains content that is not suitable for readers under age 18, the work must be marked R-18 or R-18G.
AI-generated work: Works that were entirely or largely generated by AI must be marked as "AI-generated work". AI-generated works are not eligible for the Original Novels category. For the Freestyle category, creators are allowed to submit one AI-generated work per person. Contestants who enter more than one AI-generated work will be disqualified.
Privacy settings: Only works set to Public are eligible
Language: Only works written in Japanese will be accepted in the Original Novel category. There are no restrictions on language in the Freestyle category.

The following conditions apply to the Original Novel category.
・Works that are still unfinished at the end of the contest period will be disqualified.
・Only original, previously unpublished works to which the user holds the copyrights will be accepted.
・Do not delete your entries or set them to Private until the results of the selection have been announced. In addition, winning works must not be deleted or set to Private even after the results of the selection.
3. Contest Terms
・The authors of winning works may be requested to make edits to their works, including fixing typos, before the works are compiled for publication.
Contest Results
The results of this contest will be announced on pixiv. For winning entries, pixiv nicknames and other related items to the contest may be posted to pixiv’s official Twitter, Facebook, and other social network accounts, or other pixiv-related services.
Contestants will not be informed individually when the selection results are announced.
Entries from Outside Japan
Contestants located outside of Japan are welcome to participate. Please read the Contest Terms carefully before entering.
About Eligibility for the Contest & Lottery
Any entries (including and not limited to the entry's title, caption, series description, tags, nicknames, etc.) that fall under any of the conditions outlined below will be considered ineligible for the lottery. Works that are ineligible for the lottery may be removed from any page related to the contest at pixiv's discretion. Furthermore, if a work is found to fall under any of the conditions outlined below after the contest has ended, it may be removed from the lottery and prizes may be revoked.
① Entries that do not follow the posting procedure and conditions outlined in "How to Participate"
(The following are select examples and do not represent the complete scope of these conditions)
・Works that do not match the theme of the contest.
・Works that involve individual details of specific living persons, and contain information through which these persons could be identified.
・Works that do not have the contest tag attached.
・Works with a privacy level set to “My pixiv” or “Private”
・Unfinished works (Original Novel category only)
・Works that have been posted after the entry period has ended, or works that have been edited after the entry period has ended (including titles, captions, and outlines). This also includes minor edits to fix typos, etc.
・Works posted by companies or multiple creators.
・Works posted by underage contestants without the consent of a guardian.
② Works that violate pixiv's Terms of Use, Article 14 "Prohibited Conduct"
(The following are examples and do not represent the complete scope of these conditions)
・Works and/or conduct that may infringe upon pixiv Inc.'s, or a third party's copyrights, design rights, intellectual property rights (as defined in the Terms of Use, Article 21, Subsection 1), or other rights.
・Works that contain obscenity, explicit sexual themes, and other elements that are potentially offensive.
・Works that violate or have the potential to violate the property or personality rights/privacy of pixiv or another third party.
・Works that unfairly discriminate or slander pixiv Inc. or third parties, promote unfair discrimination against third parties, or damage their credibility.
・Works that violate public order and morals.
・Works that are determined to violate any other conditions outlined in Article 14 of the Terms of Use.
* For works that fall under ②, pixiv Inc. may take measures outlined in the Terms of Use, Article 15. "Responses to Violation etc. and Cancellation of Registration" regardless of whether they are contest entries or not.
③ Others
・Works that have been posted multiple times.
・Works that were requested by a third party, or works created via the pixiv Requests feature (including Request rewards).
・The work is intended to be sold, or is already being sold, has been posted in another contest, or has already won another contest.
・The work violates the Application Guidelines.
・If pixiv Inc. contacts you, and you do not respond in the time given.
・The work is determined by pixiv Inc. to not be suitable as a submitted work.
Ownership Rights
Participants own all rights to their creations.
However, winners in the Original Novel category, upon claiming their prize (considered to be the time at which the winning contestant has completed submission of the information required to claim their prize, hereinafter, "Time of Winning"), henceforth grant the right for their winning entries to be used by pixiv Inc. (in printed publications, digital publications, comics, anime, live-action films, games, goods, digital goods, etc. Re-licensing to third parties for the purpose of translations, adaptations, and reproductions such as stated above shall include the rights set forth in the Copyright Act, Articles 27 and 28.) Furthermore, contestants shall agree that from the Time of Winning, they will waive the right to use the winning work for their own purposes without receiving consent from pixiv Inc., or licensing the winning work to be used by another third party.
Handling of Information
pixiv Inc. will only use the information received when a creator posts their work for this contest in the selection process and to notify a creator that they have won the contest. The personal information gathered to ship out the prize will be deleted after the prize has been sent out. Personal information may be requested for the purpose of distributing certain prizes. Thank you for your understanding.
4. Disclaimers
(1) Contestants assume responsibility for their own submissions.
(2) pixiv Inc. will not be responsible for any disputes that may happen between the contestants and other users, regardless of the reason.
(3) pixiv Inc. reserves the right to suspend or terminate the contest in case pixiv Inc. deems it necessary for any reason, including system maintenance.
(4) pixiv Inc. will not be liable for any damages incurred by the contestants, including but not limited to contest interruption, suspension, or cancellation.
(5) Determined by the true terms and conditions including the disclaimers, pixiv Inc. will be not responsible for any direct damages caused by willful misconduct or gross negligence caused during the contest period, regardless of immunity.
(6) pixiv Inc. will not cover any expenses borne by contestants' participation in this contest.

6. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
The contest and its terms shall be governed by Japanese law. Furthermore, the Tokyo District Court shall be the mutually-agreed court for any proceedings, with jurisdiction for the preliminary trial in the case of any disputes over contest terms or matters between pixiv Inc. and the contestants.
